Platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase (PAF-AH) is a calcium-independent member of the phospholipase A2 (PLA2) family that hydrolyzes the acetyl group at the sn-2 position of PAF, a phospholipid mediator involved in a variety of biological activities.{64074,42494} There are three types of PAF-AH: two intracellular forms, PAF-AH1 and PAF-AH2, which are ubiquitously expressed, and an extracellular form, lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2), which is found in the plasma in association with LDL and HDL.{42493,64077,64075}. Unlike PAF-AH1, which is largely restricted to hydrolysis of PAF, PAF-AH2 and Lp-PLA2 exhibit broader substrate specificity, hydrolyzing phospholipids with oxidized or short sn-2 acyl chains in addition to PAF.{42494,42493} PAF-AH1 has roles in neuronal development, protein trafficking, and spermatogenesis, and PAF-AH2 and Lp-PLA2 have a protective roles against oxidative stress and atherosclerosis, respectively.{64078} Cayman’s PAF-acetylhydrolase (human) Polyclonal Antibody can be used for Western blot (WB) applications.
