Carmustine is a DNA alkylating agent.{30628,65461} It inhibits cell growth and induces cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase in C6 rat glioma cells when used at a concentration of 10 µM.{65461} In vivo, carmustine (0.3 and 6.7 mg/kg per day) reduces tumor growth in a C6 rat glioma model. Carmustine (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.) also reduces the number of amyloid-? plaques and brain levels of amyloid-? (1-40) (A?40), as well as increases brain levels of soluble amyloid precursor protein (sAPP) in the APP/PS1 transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease.{65462} Formulations containing carmustine have been used in the treatment of gliomas and glioblastomas.
