Helicobacter pylori is a Gram-negative bacterium that can infect and colonize the stomach, leading to chronic gastritis, stomach inflammation and oxidative stress, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric cancer.{54750} H. pylori expresses greater than 30 outer membrane proteins (OMPs) on the surface of its outer membrane encoded by two gene families, helicobacter outer membrane porins (hop) and hop-related (hor).{57444,57445,58348} OMPs have roles in H. pylori attachment and colonization, the expression of pathogenic factors, antibiotic resistance, and the maintenance of the outer membrane integrity.
